## Debian / Ubuntu and derivatives
2018-03-14 09:15:17 +01:00
1. On a fresh Debian/Ubuntu, as root user, install basic utility programs needed for the installation
2018-03-15 14:39:27 +01:00
2018-03-14 08:46:55 +01:00
```
2018-03-14 09:15:17 +01:00
# apt-get install curl sudo unzip vim
2018-03-14 08:46:55 +01:00
```
2018-03-15 14:39:27 +01:00
2018-03-14 08:58:33 +01:00
2. It would be wise to disable root access and to continue this tutorial with a user with sudoers group access
2018-01-12 18:07:41 +01:00
2018-03-14 08:58:33 +01:00
3. Install certbot (choose instructions for nginx and your distribution) :
2018-03-14 08:46:55 +01:00
[https://certbot.eff.org/all-instructions ](https://certbot.eff.org/all-instructions )
2018-03-14 08:58:33 +01:00
4. Install NodeJS 8.x (current LTS):
2018-01-12 18:07:41 +01:00
[https://nodejs.org/en/download/package-manager/#debian-and-ubuntu-based-linux-distributions ](https://nodejs.org/en/download/package-manager/#debian-and-ubuntu-based-linux-distributions )
2018-04-09 22:28:53 +02:00
5. Install yarn, and be sure to have a recent version (>= 1.5.1, the latest release):
2018-02-12 08:11:45 +01:00
[https://yarnpkg.com/en/docs/install#linux-tab ](https://yarnpkg.com/en/docs/install#linux-tab )

## CentOS 7
1. Install NodeJS 8.x (current LTS):
[https://nodejs.org/en/download/package-manager/#enterprise-linux-and-fedora ](https://nodejs.org/en/download/package-manager/#enterprise-linux-and-fedora )
2. Install yarn:
[https://yarnpkg.com/en/docs/install ](https://yarnpkg.com/en/docs/install )
3. Install or compile ffmpeg:
2018-03-24 20:38:25 +01:00
* Install - [https://linoxide.com/linux-how-to/install-ffmpeg-centos-7/ ](https://linoxide.com/linux-how-to/install-ffmpeg-centos-7/ )
2018-02-12 08:11:45 +01:00
* Compile - [https://gist.github.com/mustafaturan/7053900#file-latest-ffmpeg-centos6-sh ](https://gist.github.com/mustafaturan/7053900#file-latest-ffmpeg-centos6-sh )
4. Run:
```
$ sudo yum update
2018-03-24 20:38:25 +01:00
$ sudo yum install epel-release centos-release-scl
2018-02-12 08:11:45 +01:00
$ sudo yum update
2018-07-28 10:29:37 +02:00
$ sudo yum install nginx postgresql postgresql-server postgresql-contrib openssl gcc-c++ make redis git devtoolset-7
2018-03-24 20:38:25 +01:00
```
2018-07-16 11:10:48 +02:00
5. You need to use a more up to date version of G++ in order to run the yarn install command, hence the installation of devtoolset-7.
2018-03-27 19:14:31 +02:00
```
2018-06-18 09:56:57 +02:00
$ sudo scl enable devtoolset-7 bash
2018-02-12 08:11:45 +01:00
```
2018-07-16 11:10:48 +02:00
Later when you invoke any node command, please prefix them with `CC=/opt/rh/devtoolset-7/root/usr/bin/gcc CXX=/opt/rh/devtoolset-7/root/usr/bin/g++` , such as with:
```
$ sudo -H -u peertube CC=/opt/rh/devtoolset-7/root/usr/bin/gcc CXX=/opt/rh/devtoolset-7/root/usr/bin/g++ yarn install --production --pure-lockfile
```
2018-09-22 15:48:27 +02:00
Now that dependencies are installed, before running PeerTube you should start PostgreSQL and Redis:
```
$ sudo service redis start
$ sudo service postgresql start
```
2018-09-23 15:14:15 +02:00
## Fedora
0. Upgrade your packages:
```
dnf upgrade
```
1. Add a user with sudoers group access:
```
useradd my-peertube-user
passwd my-peertube-user
usermod my-peertube-user -a -G wheel # Add my-peertube-user to sudoers
su my-peertube-user
```
2. (Optional) Install certbot (choose instructions for nginx and your distribution) :
[https://certbot.eff.org/all-instructions ](https://certbot.eff.org/all-instructions )
3. Install NodeJS 8.x (current LTS):
[https://nodejs.org/en/download/package-manager/#enterprise-linux-and-fedora ](https://nodejs.org/en/download/package-manager/#enterprise-linux-and-fedora )
4. Install yarn:
[https://yarnpkg.com/en/docs/install ](https://yarnpkg.com/en/docs/install )
5. Enable [RPM Fusion ](https://rpmfusion.org ) for Fedora (available for x86, x86_64, armhfp)
```
sudo dnf install https://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm
```
This is necessary because `ffmpeg` is not in the Fedora repos.
6. Run:
```
sudo dnf install nginx ffmpeg postgresql-server postgresql-contrib openssl gcc-c++ make redis git
ffmpeg -version # Should be >= 3.x
g++ -v # Should be >= 5.x
```
7. Post-installation
_from [PostgreSQL documentation ](https://www.postgresql.org/download/linux/redhat/ ):_
> Due to policies for Red Hat family distributions, the PostgreSQL installation will not be enabled for automatic start or have the database initialized automatically.
```
# PostgreSQL
sudo postgresql-setup initdb
sudo systemctl enable postgresql.service
sudo systemctl start postgresql.service
# Nginx
sudo systemctl enable nginx.service
sudo systemctl start nginx.service
# Redis
sudo systemctl enable redis.service
sudo systemctl start redis.service
```
8. Firewall
By default, you cannot acces your server via public IP. To do so, you must configure firewall:
```
# Ports used by peertube dev setup
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-port=3000/tcp
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-port=9000/tcp
# Optional
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-service=http
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-service=https
# Reload firewall
sudo firewall-cmd --reload
```
9. Configure max ports
This is necessary if you are running dev setup, otherwise you will have errors with `nodemon`
```
echo fs.inotify.max_user_watches=582222 | sudo tee -a /etc/sysctl.conf & & sudo sysctl -p
```

## FreeBSD
On a fresh install of [FreeBSD ](https://www.freebsd.org ), new system or new jail:
2018-05-10 09:58:44 +02:00
1. bootstrap pkg, initialize db and install peertube's dependencies, always as root (sudo not yet installed):
2018-03-27 19:14:31 +02:00
```
# pkg
# pkg update
2018-08-24 16:12:41 +02:00
# pkg install -y sudo bash wget git python nginx pkgconf vips postgresql96-server postgresql96-contrib redis openssl node npm yarn ffmpeg unzip
2018-03-27 19:14:31 +02:00
```
2018-05-10 09:58:44 +02:00
2. Allow users in the wheel group (hope you don't forgot to add your user on wheel group!) to use sudo
2018-03-27 19:14:31 +02:00
```
# visudo
```
2018-03-27 20:01:51 +02:00
Uncomment the line 90
2018-03-27 19:14:31 +02:00
```
%wheel ALL=(ALL) ALL
```
2018-05-10 09:58:44 +02:00
3. Enable nginx, redis, postgresql services and initialize database
2018-03-27 19:14:31 +02:00
```
2018-05-29 21:04:29 +02:00
# sysrc postgresql_enable="YES"
# sysrc redis_enable="YES"
# sysrc nginx_enable="YES"
2018-03-27 19:14:31 +02:00
```
2018-03-27 20:01:51 +02:00
Initialize database and start services
2018-03-27 19:14:31 +02:00
```
# service postgresql initdb
# service postgresql start
# service redis start
# service nginx start
```
2018-04-03 00:12:58 +02:00
## macOS
* Add the packages:
```
brew install ffmpeg nginx postgresql openssl gcc make redis git yarn
```
* Run the services:
```
brew services run postgresql
brew services run redis
```
2018-07-11 14:04:26 +02:00
## Gentoo
* Add this to ``/etc/portage/sets/peertube``:
```
net-libs/nodejs
sys-apps/yarn
media-video/ffmpeg[x264] # Optionnally add vorbis,vpx
dev-db/postgresql
dev-db/redis
dev-vcs/git
app-arch/unzip
dev-lang/python:2.7
www-servers/nginx
media-libs/vips[jpeg,png,exif]
# Optionnal, client for Let’ s Encrypt:
# app-crypt/certbot
# app-crypt/certbot-nginx
```
* Compile the peertube set:
```
emerge -a @peertube
```
* Initialize the PostgreSQL database if you just merged it:
```
emerge --config postgresql
```
* (For OpenRC) Enable and then start the services (replace with the correct PostgreSQL slot):
```
rc-update add redis
rc-update add postgresql-10
rc-service redis start
rc-service postgresql-10 start
```
